Ruka’s downhill skiing tradition dates back to the late 1950s, after which downhill skiing began to catch on elsewhere in Finland, too. Today Ruka is still Finland’s most popular ski center. The skiing season begins in October and ends in May.

Ruka and its surroundings offer many possibilities to enjoy wintertime and summertime activities. Next to Rukatunturi are Pyhävaara and Valtavaara, the highest point of the tableland.

The remodeled center of Ruka comprises a fell village that offers all the necessary services for the million tourists who arrive each year.
