Taivalvaara is located next to the municipal center of Taivalkoski. Its specialty is five different sized ski jumps. They are used by ski jumpers arriving from different countries beginning in early autumn.

Hotel Herkko at the top of the hill is a pleasant, comfortable hotel that is used a lot by ski jumpers. There is a good view of the surrounding forests from the hotel.

The network of ski trails includes a lighted trail and 80 kilometers of groomed cross-country ski trails. In the summer there are several backpacking, hiking and cross-country biking trails.
