The possibilities of fishing in Kuusamo Lapland are excellent. They are known in Finland and abroad. In 1989 the fly-fishing world championships were arranged on the fish-filled rivers of Kuusamo. The fishermen who arrived from all over the world appreciated the good catches: graylings and especially native lake trout, which rises from the Russian side to spawn in Kuusamo’s rivers.

The rivers fulfill the wishes of any fisherman, although the fish are easier to catch with a hook and line or a net from the numerous lakes and ponds. In winter the fish are caught through a hole in the ice.
