Kuusamo Region

Kuusamo - Taivalkoski - Posio

EVENTS

The vast array of events brings an international feel to the region and treats people to an entertaining escape from their daily routines. At the end of November, crowds arrive for the FIS World Cup Ruka Nordic Opening 2008

Early spring is the perfect time for enjoying the glistening white snow while cross-country skiing, downhill skiing or ice fishing. This is also the time for competitions, such as the traditional Border-to-Border cross-country skiing event. Other interesting events for visitors include the annual reindeer riding competition in Posio.

Summer is the peak season for cultural events, including the Sirniö Blacksmith Event in Posio and the Author Kalle Päätalo Week in Taivalkoski. Events in Kuusamo range from the Bear Festival to plays staged at the local summer theatre. In July, the RukaRock festival brings a host of big names from both Finland and abroad to Ruka.

As the days grow darker in the autumn, Taivalkoski lights up with the Burning Rapids, and Kuusamo invites people to admire the works of the world’s top nature photographers at the international Kuusamo Nature Photo festival.
